Article Type

The <article-categories> element contains the article type and section heading of an article.

Every article is assigned an article type from the Taylor & Francis list of CATS article types, which provides a classification for the article and enables article-type-specific configurations in CATS. The list of CATS article types is available here.

Article type should be tagged in a series-title element with type attribute "article-type". For example:

<series-title content-type="article-type">Article</series-title>

Article type should also be tagged in the article-type attribute on the root <article> element. Some page templates rely on having article type as an attribute of the root element. When the /article/@article-type attribute is present the value of this attribute should match the article type in //series-title[@content-type='article-type']. For example:

<article article-type="Article"

Article type will normally be provided in cats.xml. When retrodigitizing content, the most appropriate article type for an article should be selected from the list of CATS article types. The abbreviated list of article types in the table below can be consulted as a primary reference.

Table 1. Abbreviated list of CATS Article TypesThe article types appearing on this list are frequently required for retrodigitized content, and most of these article types have a have a direct equivalent in list of article types that is supported by T&F Online.
