Open Science Badges

Articles that have been awarded one or more Open Science badges should contain a backmatter section titled “Open Scholarship”. This section should be placed directly below the data availability statement section within the <back> element of the article.

The Open Scholarship section should have a @sec-type attribute value of open-scholarship. The badges awarded will also be identified within the section @sec-type attribute of the open scholarship section. The values in @sec-type should be separated by space characters. The table below lists the @sec-type attribute value corresponding to each badge.

Currently, three of the Open Science Badges created by the Center for Open Science are available for display on TFO: Open Data, Open Materials, and Preregistered.

An open-scholarship section may contain a combination of one or more of the attributes above depending on how many badges have been awarded. For example, an article has been awarded the Open Data Badge should have @sec-type="open-scholarship open-data”, and an article that has been awarded all three badges should have sec-type="open-scholarship open-data open-materials preregistered”

The text contents of the Open Scholarship section and badge graphics will vary from article to article and will be supplied by T&F production staff.
