Backmatter

Backmatter typically contains supporting material that provides additional information and context. In a typeset article backmatter appears after the main text of the article. In online environments the backmatter may be displayed after the main text of the article and may also be displayed separately from the text of the article and may be used as metadata about the article. There are specific tagging requirements for backmatter to be tagged in JATS XML within <back> or <article-meta>. The backmatter of an article may include the following (this is not an exhaustive list):

  1. Notes (endnotes) – use <fn-group>
  2. Glossary (Nomenclature) – use <glossary>
  3. Acknowledgments – use <ack>
  4. Disclosure Statement – See Disclosure Statement
  5. Funding Information – See Funding and Non Monetary Support
  6. Notes on Contributors – See Biography
  7. Author Contributions – See Author Contributions and CRediT
  8. ORCID – See Contributor Identifier
  9. Data Availability – See Data Availability Statement
  10. Open Scholarship (Open Science Badges) – See Open Science Badges
  11. Supplementary Materials – See Supplementary Materials
  12. Correction Statement – See Article Corrections
  13. References – See References
  14. Appendix – See Appendices

The
element may be used within <back> to contain material that has not been explicitly named as one of the backmatter components listed above. Each
element within <back> should have a @sec-type attribute.
